I see what you did there

This isn't really running related, but I was on a treadmill when it happened, so maybe it is. I don't know.

I entered my gym at the same time as some other guy. We hit the exercise floor at about the same time. I hit the treadmill for 45 minutes of fun and frolic. From my perch I saw the other guy leaned up against an exercise machine talking to some dude. They talked, and talked, and talked, and talked. Seriously, I paid attention to this guy for some reason, and he literally talked for the first 35 minutes of my time on the treadmill.

After those 35 minutes he walked off with the guy he was chatting with and disappeared. 18 minutes later, as I was finishing up my cool-down, I saw him dressed and heading out of the gym to go on with the rest of his day.

When he runs across some buddy of his at some time of the day or night, the guy who leaned up against an exercise machine and did nothing but talk for 35 minutes will probably brag about how hard he hit it in the gym this morning. And he might even believe he did.

But I know the truth...

  1. But at least he accomplished one of the following:

    1. Hid from his family for an hour

    2. Can put a check mark next to the day on his 2011 resolution calendar for days at the gym

    3. Tell his wife he is working on his health by going to the gym

Whatever helps you to sleep at night I guess :-)

  2. The funny thing is I got more of a workout in my 30 minute physical therapy session yesterday for my bum knee than he did in an hour at the gym!

  3. Haha, nice little rant. I can totally feel you, though. People that go to the gym for the image of being there are some lame little shits.
