Sleepytime post for a sleepy time of the year.

This week is like the week after the Super Bowl for me, when football is over for the year, players don't report for baseball spring training for a couple more weeks, hockey isn't really something you follow, and while there's basketball, you don't really care about it until March for college and June for the pros. It's just a quiet, dull, empty running week.

And my effort is proving it. Next week is the week I start half marathon training. This week is just my continuing to skate to Training: Day One. I'm not even sure how well I'll do when I start. I haven't run more than 5 miles at a time in probably 6 weeks. My mileage base is broken down and ready to get built back up. The good news is that I've shed some lbs. and am on track to line up for the start of the Frederick half marathon at a really good weight in order to attempt to best my PR there. Also, most of my physical maladies -- strained hamstring, sore calf muscle -- seem to have subsided. I can only hope that I don't break down once I trip over the 40 year-old threshold in a couple weeks.

Everyone knows there are the dog days of summer, but while I have no idea what they're called I am definitely stumbling through the dog days of winter.

When is spring again? Yeesh...
